The Washington Print Club (WPC) is a community dedicated to the appreciation, understanding, and celebration of prints and other works on paper. Established in 1964, the WPC is an inclusive and vibrant organization open to print enthusiasts of all backgrounds, including collectors, artists, scholars, and students. Unlike other print clubs, the WPC is a volunteer-driven organization without formal ties to local museums or arts institutions. Its operations are overseen by a dedicated board of directors, with the assistance of an advisory board.
Education
A key aspect of the WPC's mission is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the variety of printmaking processes. The club conducts a robust educational program, with monthly enrichment opportunities (excluding summer) for members. These events include curator-led exhibition tours, gallery visits, private collection tours, artist studio visits, and print workshops. Additionally, the WPC maintains active social media presence on Instagram and Facebook, sharing captivating content about works on paper and printmaking techniques.
Publication
Throughout its history, the WPC has published a magazine dedicated to exploring a wide range of topics. The club's current publication, On Paper, is released twice a year and features insightful articles and exhibition reviews. Each issue highlights a notable area artist, accompanied by full-color illustrations of their work, providing valuable exposure for local talent.
Exhibitions
Over the years, the WPC has organized a diverse series of exhibitions, showcasing both member artists' work and works on paper from member collections. Notably, since 2007, four exhibitions featuring member prints have been held at the American University Museum at the Katzen Center. In 2020, the club presented an exhibition spotlighting portrait works from member collections.
Incorporation and Mission
The Washington Print Club operates as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization under the District of Columbia Not-For-Profit Corporation Law. The club's mission is to encourage, stimulate, and advance interest in printmaking, drawing, photography, collecting, preservation, techniques, and enjoyment of prints and the arts.
